Summary of the Proceedings of the Seminar
Good governance is the new buzz word in the media in India and the international community .What does good governance mean? What are its constitutional implications? How should we administer for good governance? How is good governance linked to science and technology which are changing the face of our global society'? Above all, how does good governance affect the life of the common man, mired as he is in his day to day problems of survival in these complex times.
These are some of the issues that have been discussed in this book Towards Good Governance, based on the deliberations of a National Seminar organised by India International Centre on September 28-29, 1996, in which a large number of distinguished leaders, public figures, professionals and scientists, administrators and constitutional experts participated. Following the Seminar, interactions were held with various groups to evolve and develop an Indian model for "Good Governance". It is hoped that this book will provide the basis for a national debate on this crucial subject, which deeply affects the way our country will-evolve in the decades ahead and how Indians will live in the new global society of the 21st century .
